ABOUT US — The Fairbanks Frontier Chorus is the most Northern Sweet Adeline chorus in North America.  We are members of Sweet Adelines International located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, having chartered our chapter in December 1965.  We share the same purpose as our organization, to promote and preserve the original American art form of barbershop harmony and performing to fulfill our mission to harmonize the world, and our motto is “Harmonize the World.”

Our membership includes women of all ages that come from all backgrounds and occupations.  We have both homemakers and professional women, including teachers and students, and insurance adjuster, a police officer, a former legislative aide and many more.  The joy of singing barbershop harmony is the bond that ties us together.    READ MORE

Born into a musical family, she learned to play several instruments as a child and graduated from high school in Klamath Falls, Oregon, with many musical awards that propelled her into a lifetime of music study.  She obtained a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Oregon and taught music in the public schools for several years.  It was at this point that she first came to Alaska. —READ MORE

OUR HISTORY — Sweet Adelines International  began 60 years ago in Tulsa, Oklahoma, when its founder, Edna May Anderson, invited a group of women to her home to enjoy the wonderful harmony and a truly American folk art that their husband’s enjoyed. You may have guessed it . . . their husbands were members of SPEBSQSA, and acronym for Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America.  They are SPEB’s for short.

From that small core group the wonderful sounds of female voices singing barbershop harmony would eventually be heard around the world. Later, that core group put out a call for all interested wives of the SPEBSQSA to join them at their kickoff meeting on July 23, 1947.  The meeting was held at the Hotel Tulsa in Oklahoma where the SPEBSQSA was originally formed in the 1939.  The meeting was a huge success and a large number of women joined.  By the end of 1947, "Sweet Adelines, Inc." was officially established, and incorporated with 85 members.    —READ MORE
